Oh man, this was delightful and exhilarating. I've had those hard days, so I got uneasy flashbacks. But it's really encouraging to see how you took the day in stride. Perhaps something does come from sabbaticals!

Oh God. May have to start a whole new Substack for it.

What a chaotic Monday it was (I didn't know almond milk could go bad), and I am glad you were able to take it in stride, laugh it off, and even take it as inspiration for your Substack. I felt like I went through the Monday with you but I don't think I'd be able to go through it as graciously. I also love this line loads: "I will always conquer the floor plan bot."

The details and emotions throughout the whole piece was musical Elizabeth. Well done on that ebb and flow of feeling. Is the photo yours? I'm really digging it, especially for this piece!

Thanks Steven!!! I’m glad I got the motion and emotion in there ;) and yes that is my photo! This was actually taken when we had the Canada forest fire smoke and I used Lightroom to drastically modify the colors 😂 the smoke makes it look vintage!!! Lol

This was so captivating to read! I don’t see enough post sabbatical reflections and I enjoyed this one so much. We can have our dream jobs and also know not to take life so seriously (even if one morning everything goes wrong). A great reminder!

Thank you Michelle :):):) I’m glad it was captivating!!! I’ll prob be writing more post-sabbatical reflections because adjusting to work life again feels harder than working pre-sabbatical time 😂

I love how vivid and funny this story is. While reading it, in my mind I envisioned the events playing out like it was a mockumentary style sitcom like Parks & Rec or The Office. And every time some shenanigan happens, I imagine you breaking the third wall and looking directly at the camera with big eyes or like 😬 I’m happy you gave us a little peek into your architect world.

Also, so much sympathy for knocking over the mug! I feel like I’m always knocking over drinks. The other day I knocked over my mason jar and glass of water onto my floor. A million shards everywhere. It sounds like you handled everything that day like an absolute champ. That whole day sounds like pure chaos.

I really feel like this one line could spiral into it’s own spin off story: “I will always conquer the floor plan bot.” lol

Im so happy you say that because I wanted it to feel like a sitcom, I’ve been watching lots of Seinfeld and felt ✨inspired✨ but next time I’ll break the third wall with a 😬 or maybe a 🫨 lololol

Ooo nooo I hope you found all the lil shards!!! I’m sorry you lost your jar, I always get so sad when I break a glass item :( even if it’s just a partial break, the whole thing just feels like it died and is never coming back. Why can’t they make glass more flexible!!

Ooo I’m feeling that prompt. I feel like it could turn into something surreal. Let’s discuss after I get my feet wet with this software!

The domino effect of one thing going wrong after another is so relatable. It used to be a running joke at the london company I worked for that I was “enticing everyone to clean their desks” because I knocked over my water on our shared desk space so often. 😅

Glad you were able to laugh it off!

P.S. Congrats on landing your dream job after years of hard work!
