I love a good ol' Liz breakdown. You make me color theory literate and I can't thank you enough. I'm really glad that you chose to give his eyes more detail–it was the part of the piece that I stared at the longest.

Bode looks like such a happy boi :) That glimmer in his eye warms my heart and I love how he pops against the blue.

Hope you have a great first week at work, Elizabeth!

Love bode! And the color wheel makes a return! The artist's process is always one to follow and unpack but especially hard for an outsider, so I'm so glad you are unraveling the process yourself for visual art n00bs like me haha ;)

Love Bode, Elizabeth. I used to have a Doberman too (actually, she was my sister's) and I know them well. They have infinite energy and stay puppies forever, as you said about Bode. :)

Bode is so cool! Thank you for sharing him with us Liz. And in that simple painting, I learned so much about the process of color and sight. I kind of want to send you a picture of Nikko and ask if you could paint him. He's going to be 11 in June, and also has a big personality like Bode.

Wonderful post this week.

AAHHHHHH It's sooooo nice to see Bode. I just want to smush his face! Gosh!

Dude, love the painting. I also love the GIF you shared. Stealing that idea. You can clearly see the difference in the emotions both paintings evoke. The second one (especially with the in-focus eye) somehow captures the personality of your dog. I think the long tongue hanging out also adds that extra touch of character.

Great job!

I love the Bode painting!! I love that I learn a little through the process of following your process. I’m not sure what the background should be, but I cord anyway haha. Definitely get some rest in! I can’t even imagine the bandwidth it takes to give feedback on 50+ essays. I know what it takes for like 5 though so I can imagine. Thank you for supporting the students and encouraging them throughout WOP!

I love that introduction, it makes me feel like I’m right there with Bode and his droopy tongue.

You could do a WHOLE series writing about walking Bode and I would be into it. HE’S PERFECT.

“A huge grin will stretch across his face before he keeps on running.” What a mischievous doggo. I like it lol

This whole thing about him made me smile and laugh and I’m happy he gets another opportunity to shine in your writing AND in your art. Even though his tongue is the star, his lil eye is so twinkly and I’m obsessed with it. How does one eyeball convey so much emotion?! You did such a good job on it!

Also, the difference between the first painting and the new one is like night and day, especially around Bode’s personality [and eye]. He has multitudes!!! In the first one, he looks like he could be wearing a black turtleneck. Throw a lil beret on him.

Love that you made your visuals yourself, by the way. ✨

If you do go with the park background, [I actually voted for this] it would be fun to see you double down on the playfulness with how you approach it [while still not detracting from Bode] because of how silly and sweet Bode looks. I still think Bode in space with turtles would be fun, but I don’t see this option lol 😒

Bode is joy.

Kelly might have magical interior designing, but your painting of Bode and storytelling is magical too.
