Oh, I love this. I'd love to hear more about your commute too. (Assuming you're in a car), is there a go-to radio station/podcast/album that you blast? Do you stop by somewhere for coffee/groceries? I'm currently stuck in a commute-by-train situation, though I love it for its convenience (it comes every 3-5 minutes during peak hours).

You touch on an amazing topic Elizabeth: people watching on the subway. It's so rich with stimulus and you capture it so accurately. At the same time it's very mundane, or boring, if you don't pay attention. There's a movie called Shame that has some scenes on the NY subway which are all stares, smiles, so much is conveyed in them, it's amazing. Reading this made me remember it.

Loved the short essay, kind of stream-of-consciousness. And just happy you're enjoying the new setting and job journey!

I think “giggling pencils” is my favorite phrase. Imagine if pencils could actually giggle? Or your paintbrushes? How adorable and strange. What if they have feelings?! I can picture them all with lil googly eyes.

Obviously big fan of the commute writing. More! I wonder how awake you are for your commute compared to me when I was an employed citizen. Even though I was only a short drive away, I was more of a tea drinker back then because coffee in the morning added to my anxiety. Zero energy.

This post reminded me of my time in Buenos Aires; a lot of walking and riding the subway daily. I HATED when the subway was packed, but I loved riding it. In college, the bus was my main mode of transportation. I hated the waiting around for it, the unsafe feelings, and planning around it but I also miss riding it. I don’t think my train rides here have ever been when it’s packed luckily.

Generally speaking, big fan of walking and public transportation. Perfect for people watching and it makes me feel more connected to others.

Here for all the sunset and sky pictures. I don’t think pictures like that ever get old. Paint everything. Commute paintings, please!

More TDB writing experiments :)
